February 5,2002

Weary and old blended with with a bit of nostalgia and you have me today. The reason for this is my 16 year old daughter. The laws which govern us,state she can drive by herself today. I remember when she couldn't walk without my hand...but fifteen minutes ago,she got in the Explorer( big, heavy and handles well in snow) and drove off as dusk turned to dark to go to religious class. I couldn't even watch her back out of the driveway.
I did give her some motherly advice before she left.....wear your seatbelt..don't talk on your cell phone while driving, pay attention to what you are doing, but more importantly pay attention to those about you, drive slowly, remember it is winter and there could be patches of ice, call me when you get there..she interrupted my wonderful words of wisdom, saying mom I love you...took the keys in hand and bounced out of the house...I guess she didn't have to be nervous, I was nervous enough for the both of us.
A few months ago this entire situation would necessitate the need to eat and have a nice big glass of wine while I waited for the phone to ring..instead here I am typing and listening to the clock ticking....
The phone just rang, she is fine...and now I can relax for an hour until her return trip home......
