March 14,2002

I have been asked what is the right amount of exercise to do as one follows the Michael Thurmond plan.
There is toning that they recommend be done twice a week at 18 minutes.  IT is customized to the individual.  I do not do the bands at present, for I work out in the gym.  My program was developed by my personal trainer to hit the areas that I wish to  tone.  I do nautilus and free weights three times a week and follow the session with aerobics ( treadmill or bike) for twenty minutes. I keep it in the fat burning zone, which means 65 percent of ones maximum heart rate. For  me that is right around 116. Here is where many people make mistakes with thier cardio, they exercise at 80 percent of maximum, which even though it is hard to comprehend does not burn fat as fast as at 65%.  The days I am not doing weights, I walk on the treadmill for 45 minutes at 65%. So my exercise plan consists of six days a week.  I go first thing in the am (5am) and eat before I leave as they prescribe). I started this exercise plan Jan 28th and have enjoyed it much more than I ever anticipated. I hope this answers the question.
Have a great day!
